Basic concepts of knitted fabrics
Knitted fabrics are fabrics formed by using knitting needles to bend the yarns into loops and string them together. The difference between knitted fabrics and woven fabrics is that the yarns are in a different form in the fabric.
Knitted fabrics, according to the weaving method, there are weft knitted fabrics and warp knitted fabrics two types. Weft knitted fabrics are often made of low stretch polyester yarn or shaped polyester yarn, nylon yarn, cotton yarn, wool yarn, etc. They are knitted on various weft knitting machines using flat knitted fabric, variable flat knitted fabric, ribbed flat knitted fabric, double ribbed flat knitted fabric, jacquard fabric, terry fabric, etc.
The direction of the fabric length; the yarn is called the warp yarn; the number of yarns arranged in 1 inch is the warp density (warp density);
In the direction of the width of the fabric, the yarn is called the weft and the number of yarns arranged in 1 inch is the weft density (weft density);
Used to indicate the number of yarns per unit length of the woven fabric, generally 1 inch or 10 cm of yarn roots, China's national standards specify the use of 10 cm of yarn roots to indicate density, but textile enterprises are still accustomed to use 1 inch of yarn roots to indicate density, such as the commonly seen "45X45/108X58" This means that the warp and weft yarns are 45, and the warp and weft density is 108 and 58.
The effective width of the fabric, generally used to inches or centimetres, common 36 inches, 44 inches, 56-60 inches, etc., respectively, called narrow, medium and wide, higher than 60 inches of fabric for the extra wide width, often called wide cloth, today's extra wide fabric width can reach 360 cm. The width is usually marked behind the density, e.g. the fabric mentioned in 3 is said to be "45X45/108X58/60" if the width is added, i.e. a width of 60 inches.
The grammage of a fabric is generally the number of grams of fabric weight in square metres, and is an important technical indicator for knitted fabrics. The grammage of denim fabrics is generally expressed in "ounces (OZ)", i.e. ounces per square yard of fabric weight, e.g. 7 ounces, 12 ounces of denim, etc;
In Japan, it is called "dyed fabric", which means that the yarn or filament is dyed first, and then the colour yarn is used to weave the fabric, this fabric is called "colour woven fabric", the factory that produces colour woven fabric is generally called dyeing and weaving factory, such as denim, and most of the Shirt fabrics are colour woven;
Cotton is one of the most common fabrics in the textile field, but of course there are many different types of cotton, after different processes cotton also has different characteristics, such as combed cotton, washed cotton, etc., but cotton has good moisture absorption and breathability, soft touch and excellent warmth to make the fabric more comfortable to wear.
Polyester silk is polyester filament, polyester silk is a fabric woven with super hollow construction silk (hollow rate 35%~40%), it contains a lot of stagnant air, light and warm, but moderate ventilation performance, no stuffy feeling, polyester yarn is low cost, can be used for garment lining, necktie, embroidery thread, thermal underwear, etc. It is rough to touch, not as smooth as real silk, but good luster, mainly used for men's necktie.
